HOLY WEEK

«Holy Week is not just a party but an authentic way of life, a transfiguration of days and nights», Joseph Peyré

It is the Fiesta Mayor in Seville. It commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. Between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, more than 60 brotherhoods process the streets of Seville towards the Cathedral, passing through the Official Race. The Sevillians accompany the images in their footsteps during the itinerary, a word that referred to a theatrical performance in ancient times.

They dress as Nazarenes carrying candles, crosses and other elements typical of the brotherhoods. The images are carried by the bearers and are directed by the foreman.

APRIL FAIR

The most colorful party in the world.

The Fair is like a small, decorated city. An ephemeral world where the houses are booths, the lighting is achieved with lanterns and all the streets are named after legendary bullfighters.

The official attire for women is the flamenco dress. Its roots are in Seville and in the custom that peasant women and gypsies had, at the end of the 19th century, of wearing a ruffled gown as a uniform to do their tasks.

These women used to add ruffles, embroidery, and colors to the robe.
